LUCKNOW: The two accused in murder of 43-year-old right-wing leader Kamlesh Tiwari have been spotted in Shahjahanpur hours after state DGP OP Singh announced a reward of Rs 2.

The two accused in murder of 43-year-old right-wing leader Kamlesh Tiwari have been spotted in Shahjahanpur hours after state DGP OP Singh announced a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh each for apprehending the culprits.

Sources said Sheikh Ashfaq Husain and Moinuddin Ahmad have been spotted in CCTV footage of a Shahjahanpur hotel near the railway station. The STF has been conducting raids at hotels, musafirkhanas (rest houses) and madrasas.

It has been claimed that the duo had booked an SUV in Pallia, Lakhimpur Khiri, and headed towards Shahjahanpur. The STF has reportedly arrested the SUV driver . The duo are believed to be hiding somewhere in Shahjahanpur.

On Sunday, DGP Singh had claimed that a day before committing the murder, the assailants had checked into a hotel near Tiwari’s Khursheed Bagh residence. The CCTV footage in the hotel reception showed the miscreants going out of the hotel carrying sweets in which the murder weapon was hidden.

Recovery of the similar box of sweets left at the crime scene led the police to Surat and subsequent arrest of three persons — Maulana Mohsin Sheikh Saleem, Faizan and Rashid Ahmad Pathan, alias, Khursheed. The UP Police have got 72-hour transit remand of the trio. — TNS
