Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has said that two other kinds of talaq in the Muslim community were also a challenge to gender justice and equality.

"Greater clarity today. Only instant triple talaq is illegal. Other two kinds are also a challenge to gender justice and gender quality," he said in a tweet.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court struck down the practice of instant triple talaq practised by Muslim men to divorce wives as violative of the Constitution, arbitrary and void in law. IANS
