UP gives edu dept land for water sports facility!

LUCKNOW:The Uttar Pradesh Government will transfer five acres near Gorakhpur’s Ramgarh Tal from the Education Department to the Tourism Department to develop a water sports complex and auditorium.

Lucknow, December 7

The Uttar Pradesh Government will transfer five acres near Gorakhpur’s Ramgarh Tal from the Education Department to the Tourism Department to develop a water sports complex and auditorium.

The decision, taken at the Cabinet meeting headed by the CM Yogi Adtiyanath on Tuesday, followed the recommendations made by the Gorkahpur Development Authority. The land, allocated to the Education Department to set up a library and research centre in 1988-89, will be handed over to the Department of Tourism free of cost.

The Gorkahpur Development Authority had surveyed of the lake and its surrounding areas. It found that building a water sports complex — a dream project of CM Yogi — would be more useful on the land.

According to a statement, the lake in Gorakhpur, a key tourist destination, needs to be developed for water sports.

Moreover, since April work had started on the project as nullahs falling into the lake had been closed to improve the water quality. Beautification of the area around the lake had also started as the CM wants the tourists to halt at the city on their way to the Buddhist circuit of Kushinagar or Lumbini in Nepal. — TNS
