Khanna: Jasjit Singh Barnala, son of former Chief Minister Surjit Singh Barnala, on Thursday joined AAP in the presence of party leaders Sanjay Singh and Durgesh Pathak. AAP’s Khanna candidate Anil Datt Phalli confirmed the joining. The Barnala family had joined the Congress some time ago, but none of its members were able to secure the party ticket. OC


GPS trackers to monitor poll officials 

Muktsar: To keep a check on officials on election duty, Muktsar District Election Officer Sumeet Jarangal has got installed global positioning system (GPS) trackers in 30 government vehicles. He said it would help keep a check on officials whether they visited some spot or not. “It will be tough for officers to leave the station as I will be monitoring their vehicle’s location,” he added. Ferozepur: Satnam Paul Kamboj, AAP’s 2014 Lok Sabha nominee from Ferozepur, on Thursday quit the party with his supporters alleging discrepancies in the selection of candidates. Kamboj is miffed at the allocation of ticket to Congress turncoat Narinder Sandha from Ferozepur (Urban). “When I objected, AAP Punjab incharge Sanjay Singh asked me to mind my business,” Kamboj alleged. ‘Raj nahi sewa’ tagline poses challenge

Jalandhar: As the district election officers are engaged in removing all signages, hoardings, calendars, posters and other material in government offices and public places promoting the ruling alliance, they have come across a peculiar problem. More than 2000 Sewa Kendras that have been recently set up all across Punjab boldly display the government tagline “Raj nahi sewa”. Row over date of birth of Ghubaya’s son

Fazilka: A controversy has erupted over the age of SAD MP Sher Singh Ghubaya’s son Davinder Singh Ghubaya, who recently joined the Congress. On his birth certificate, the date is mentioned as December 13, 1991. Contrary to this in his metric certificate, the date is mentioned as July 31, 1993. Besides, his age has been mentioned as 22 years in the voter list issued in 2016. A certificate issued by DAV Model School, Sector 15, Chandigarh, mentions his date of birth as July 31, 1993 as per school records. When contacted, Davinder Singh maintained that his correct date of birth is December 13, 1991 as per his birth certificate. oc
