Akali candidates have painted on benches party’s slogan, symbol and names of candidates in Assembly segments of Patiala district

Opposition parties say benches — there are 1,000 of them — “give free publicity to SAD candidates”

The benches are installed along highways and roads, and at bus stops and gardens in Patiala, Nabha, Sanaur, Samana, Patiala Rural and Rajpura Assembly segments

Patiala District Electoral Officer Ramvir Singh says the process is on to “paint all such benches” and cover any slogan or symbol that violates the model code of conduct.  AMAN SOOD
