Faridkot, January 11
The police have booked SAD candidate Parambans Singh, alias Bunty Romana, and his seven associates for allegedly blocking a road, using undue influence in the election and violating the model code of conduct.
Earlier, the police had registered the case, filed under Sections 171 F/188 and 283 of the IPC on January 9, against unidentified persons. However, after being prodded by the election commission, the police today named eight accused in this case, including Romana.
The police today arrested four accused. They are Babrik Singh, Gurkanwal Singh, Sandeep Singh and Jafarjeet Singh. Four other accused are Romana, Pawan Kumar, Davinder Singh and Tajinder Singh.
Gurmej Singh, investigation officer, said all four accused were released on bail.
The incident took place during the opening ceremony of the SAD election office in Faridkot. During this ceremony, the Akali candidate and his supporters had allegedly kept over 2,000 chairs on the main road. They had even erected barricades on both sides of the road, thus denying entry to vehicles on this road.
