Jagtar Singh Jagga Hissowal from Aam Aadmi Party won the seat from Raikot. The first timer surprised everybody as he defeated Indian National Congress candidate Amar Singh. Hissowal got 48,245 votes while 37,631 votes went in favour of Amar Singh. He won with a margin of 10,614 votes. Throughout the voting, Hissowal maintained his lead.

  • 2nd: Amar Singh - Congress Votes polled: 37,631
  • 3rd: Inder Iqbal S Atwal - SAD Votes polled: 29019

Forty-two-year old, Hissowal, has a diploma in arts and crafts and regularly organise de-addiction camps and rallies to aware youth about sports.

It is for the fifth time consecutively that a candidate from party out of power in the government has been elected from this constituency.

In 2012 Assembly elections, Gurcharan Singh from INC, defeated SAD’s Bikramjit Singh.

Total of 1,17,383 voters are enrolled out of which 78.52 % males, 78.89% females and 100 % third gender voters casted their votes.

SAD veteran Dhillon saves Sanhewal seat

Sharanjit Singh Dhillon from Shiromani Akali Dal has secured his seat from Sanhewal. Dhillon was leading throughout the counting procedure and won with a margin of 4,551. Dhillon got 63,184 votes while singer turned politician Satwinder Bitti from Indian National Congress managed to get 58,633 votes.

Dhillon (63) is a law graduate and SAD veteren and has served as Irrigation Minister and was a former MP from Ludhiana.

While there has been develoment in villages, no development of airport, neglect in several areas are the key issues faced by this constituencies.

Out of 1,67,235 voters 2,19,404 turned up for voting. Male voter turnout was 76.23% while female voter turnout in this constituency was 76.21%.

In 2012, Assembly elections, Sharanjit Singh Dhillon (SAD) won with 71,583 votes over Vikram Singh Bajwa from the Congress who got 50,367 votes
