Batala, January 16

State AAP convener and Batala candidate Gurpreet Singh Waraich faced an embarrassing situation due to a discrepancy in his nomination papers.

He led a procession of his supporters to the office of SDM-cum-Returning Officer Pirthi Singh this afternoon. Just as he was about to hand over the papers, somebody pointed out the discrepancy.

Waraich consulted the RO, who asked him to come tomorrow with a complete set of papers.

As per the EC’s Handbook for Returning Officers 2014, the candidate must have opened a bank account 24 hours before filing the papers.

Waraich completed the formalities for opening a bank account on Friday and thinking that his account had been opened the same itself, he went to the RO oblivious to the fact that the bank opened his account today.
