Patiala, January 19
With PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh busy campaigning across the state, it is his wife Preneet Kaur who is ensuring that the absence of her husband from Patiala does not affect the Congress’ chances in their home town.
While Amarinder is facing a dual task of campaigning for other candidates in Punjab and also in Lambi against Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, it does not come as surprise that he is yet to hold a rally in Patiala. It was only on the day of filing of nomination, the royal couple took out a roadshow. Otherwise, it’s Preneet who is holding the fort for him.
Addressing a gathering inside the walled city, considered to be the pocket-borough of the royal family, Preneet tries to strike an emotional chord with the people. “My family has been with you through thick and thin, so please vote considering it. Why is it that after 10 years that the Akalis have suddenly woken up to the idea of development which they really don’t intend to do in Patiala?” she asks.
Preneet Kaur, who has been a former Minister of State for External Affairs and is Patiala Urban MLA, says, “I will ensure that my husband Capt Amarinder does not have to think about the rival candidates, be it SAD’s Gen (retd) JJ Singh and AAP’s Balbir Singh.”
