The SAD (Amritsar) today announced the candidature of a Hindu face, Rajiv Vijan, from Khanna.

Talking to The Tribune, party president Simranjit Singh Mann said the party was committed to the welfare of all sections. He said they would field more Hindu and even Muslim faces along with Sikhs. He said he would appeal to the Hindu community to stand with their Sikh brothers to fight for the rights of the state. He claimed that the party was not a radical organisation as was projected by certain vested interests. He said the party respected all religions.

Vijan, meanwhile, thanked the party chief and other leaders for reposing faith in him. He said that he would kick off his campaign right away. “I will raise the problems of the area and try to resolve these at the earliest after winning the seat.”

He claimed that they had a considerable vote base in the area that would help him win the seat. “I will try to strengthen the hands of Mann for the development of the area,” he added.

Vijan is a graduate and currently SAD (A) president of Khanna urban segment. He also reportedly holds the post of the national general secretary of the party.
