Amritsar, January 22

Congress leaders who are making arrangements for the party rally to be addressed by MP Capt Amarinder Singh in Amritsar on January 24 alleged that the SAD-BJP government was creating hurdles for them to mobilise people for the event.

“Be it intimidating bus operators or the hostile attitude of the local administration, the state government is trying its best not to allow people to reach here,” said Congress leaders in a joint statement today.

Rally coordinator Rana Gurjeet Singh, senior leaders OP Soni, Sukh Sarkaria, Raj Kumar Verka and Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa said party workers were complaining of harassment at the hands of the police and the district administration.

The government is afraid of the massive response to the rally which is likely to be attended by more than one lakh people on Saturday, they said.
