Ropar, January 16

The SAD candidate and sitting MLA, Daljit Singh Cheema, got a setback when several local party leaders led by SAD (Youth) general secretary of Malwa zone Harpreet Kahlon along with their supporters held a meeting alleging that Cheema had ignored the party loyalists during the past five years at Nurpur Bedi, near here today.

Others who addressed the meeting held in this regard include Amarjit Walia, Harinder Singh Gill, Daulat Singh Chawarewal, Gurdev Singh Dakala and Amarjit Singh Jolly.

The protesting leaders said they had been working for the party and campaigned for Cheema during his elections and ensured his victory. Cheema, however, ignoring them preferred to give preference to newcomers especially those who were his adversaries in the past.

They said now they had no option but to look for some other candidate to support.

Cheema said a majority of people protesting against him were already involved in anti-party activities and misusing the party's name. Moreover, a few dissociated with them late in the evening, he claimed. — TNS
