Mohali, January 16

As many as five nominations were filed for the Punjab Assembly elections in Mohali today. However, no candidate from Kharar and Dera Bassi filed the papers.

Among those who filed the nomination papers, Akali-BJP candidate Capt Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu was the prominent one. He filed his papers in the presence of Returning Officer-cum-SDM Anuprita Johal at the District Administrative Complex this morning. Sidhu’s wife Mandeep Kaur Sidhu is the covering candidate for him.

The other three candidates who filed their nominations were Parneet Singh Pandher (Independent), Krishan Gopal Sharma from the Bharat (Integrated) Rakshak Party and Gurkirpal Singh Mann of the Punjab Democratic Party. Sidhu was accompanied by only 10 persons, including his father-in-law Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Mohali Mayor Kulwant Singh. His wife and he first paid obeisance at Gurdwara Amb Sahib before proceeding to the RO-cum-SDM office.

“I am a simple man who doesn’t believe in show-off. As I didn’t want to cause inconvenience to the public, I decided to make it a simple affair,” said Sidhu.
