Chandigarh, October 23

Acting on a petition alleging conflict of interest, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday put the Punjab Government, PSPCL and power minister Rana Gurjit Singh on notice for November 11.

The notice came on a petition filed in public interest by advocate H C Arora seeking directions for restraining Rana Gurjit Singh from dealing with PSPCL affairs, particularly revision of tariff and decision to shut down the government thermal plants.

Arora alleged the decisions involved conflict of interest.

Elaborating, Arora said the minister was also co-founder of Rana Sugars Ltd. His personal interests, as majority shareholder of a private power-producer company along with his wife, were conflicting with interest of the state.
