While the Congress is claiming that it generated about 1.6 lakh jobs in one year of it forming the government, a majority of the youths who got job letters today claimed that the government played no role in the matter. They said they got jobs on the basis of their respective capabilities through campus placements.

Many students rued that the Punjab Government was befooling people in the name of “Ghar Ghar Rozgar” scheme. Most of them who got appointment letters today said they had not appeared in any of the job fairs held by the government as they got offers during campus placement, which was a routine.

Pramod (name changed), a hotel management student from Chandigarh Group of College, Landran, said he got selected in a leading company during the campus placement. The government was nowhere in the picture, he said.

Another computer science student from Chandigarh University said she got selected in an MNC, which offered her Rs 9 lakh per annum. She, too, did not appear in any job fair. She said she got selected in August last year, but was asked to come to the venue today.

A youth claimed that he was called as a “dummy” recruit to collect job letter on behalf of another recently recruited student. Another alleged that the government was taking credit for campus placements. Some students said they got appointment letters long time ago, but were called at the PAU to collect these again. A student said he had applied for Punjab Home Guard last year and now given the offer letter. “I did not appear in any job fair,” he said.
