10 of family die in Ferozepur road accident

FEROZEPUR: Tragedy struck Jagir Singh of Palasaur village in Tarn Taran for the second time in two weeks with 10 members of his family killed in a ghastly road road accident on the Zira-Makhu highway this afternoon.

Tragedy struck Jagir Singh of Palasaur village in Tarn Taran for the second time in two weeks with 10 members of his family killed in a ghastly road road accident on the Zira-Makhu highway this afternoon. Jagir Singh lost his wife Mohinder Kaur (70), son Satnam Singh (43), the village nambardar, daughters-in-law Ranjit Kaur (42 ) and Rajwant Kaur (30), grandsons Sukhchain Singh (26), Mandeep Singh (25) and Akashdeep Singh and granddaughter Harmandeep Kaur (5), besides his daughter Ranjit Kaur and her son Raj Singh (22).

The Tavera (PB 09 G 0962), carrying the victims, was crushed under a 20-wheel lorry (PB 03 V- 5671).The driver, Manjit Singh (42), was killed too. The lorry driver fled after the accident. BS Dhaliwal, DC, Gaurav Garg, SSP, Vineet Kumar, SDM, and other senior officers rushed to the accident site.

On February 6, Jagir’s younger son Surjit Singh was shot dead when SAD leaders allegedly attacked their house. Surjit’s wife Rajwant, who was pregnant, and their daughter Harmandeep were among those killed today. The couple's other daughter, Muskanpreet, was injured. Lovedeep Singh, Sumanpreet and constable Jatinder Singh, attached with the family as security guard, too sustained injuries.

The family was returning home after offering prayers at a “dargah” in Mahianwali village in Makhu. Palasaur village plunged into grief as it learnt about the tragedy. Residents of nearby areas too gathered at Jagir Singh's house to offer solace.
