12 farmers booked for stealing canal water

FAZILKA: The police have booked 12 farmers for allegedly stealing canal water and impounded pipes and motors used in lifting water from the Southern canal near Shajrana village in the district on Thursday.

The police have booked 12 farmers for allegedly stealing canal water and impounded pipes and motors used in lifting water from the Southern canal near Shajrana village in the district on Thursday.

A police party, led by DSP Narinder Singh, and SDO, Canal, Pawan Bishnoi, raided various spots near burzi number 56 and seized at least 20 pipes and water motors.

Executive Engineer, Irrigation, DS Dhariwal, said sometimes farmers laid pipes temporarily and stole water. He said the guilty would not be spared. — OC
