Faridkot, May 27
A 13-year-old girl who went missing from her home in Kotkapura on Friday evening was found dead in a field in Sandhwan village, about 4 km from Kotkapura.
With a “dupatta” tightened around her neck, the body was dumped in a field. Some farmers reported the matter to the police this morning.
While the police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) against unknown persons at Sadar police station in Kotkapura, the body was sent to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot for a post-mortem examination.
A panel of three doctors conducted the autopsy. The preliminary report revealed that she was raped and strangled to death on Friday evening.
Nanak Singh, SSP, Faridkot, said the FIR would be modified after getting the post-mortem report. So far, there is no mention of any sexual offence in the FIR.
The girl’s parents are construction workers.
