Government employees and pensioners in the district are facing problems as their 2,500 medical bills are waiting clearance at the Sangrur Civil Surgeon’s (CS) office.

Though the CS has formed a special team of five employees to clear the bills, yet the pendency is increasing.

At the start of February, 3,000 medical bills of both working and retired employees were pending, said sources. Till the end of last month, around 1,000 bills out of these were cleared. But around 700-800 bills more landed at the CS office and now, around 2,500 bills are pending.

District authorities have powers to clear medical bills up to Rs 25,000, but bills above this amount need the approval of senior authorities and are sent to Chandigarh.

Civil Surgeon, Sangrur, Kiranjot Balim confirmed that around 2,500 medical bills are pending in her office.
