PATIALA: A child and a man were killed and four other persons were injured in an explosion at a residential area near Lakkar Mandi in Patiala on Monday.

Patiala, March 19

A child and a man were killed and four other persons were injured in an explosion at a residential area near Lakkar Mandi in Patiala on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Mumtiaz, 25, and Sameer, a 2-year-old child. The others are undergoing treatment at Rajindra hospital for treatment.

As per first-hand information, the blast took place early morning at about 7. 40 AM. A neighbour of the deceased said the youth along with the children was trying to break a discarded explosive while collecting metal out of burning rags.

Rahul Kaushal, SHO Kotwali, said, “The police have checked the blast site and have collected discarded explosives and broken glass along with other things. We have brought in a team from the forensic department. The investigation is going on.” 

The police said the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem.
