4 policemen booked for aiding peddler

MUKTSAR: Four policemen, including a Station House Officer (SHO), were booked for aiding a drug peddler.

Four policemen, including a Station House Officer (SHO), were booked for aiding a drug peddler.

Sub-Inspector Dharmpal, posted as SHO, City, Malout, was arrested, while head constables Rachpal Singh and Balraj Singh and home guard jawan Bhupinder Singh alias Nikka were still at large.

Sources said last evening, a police team conducted a raid following a tip-off that the two head constables and the home guard jawan were allegedly striking a deal with a drug peddler, Balram alias Kala Mistri of Malout. The latter was arrested with 1 gm of heroin, but the accused policemen managed to flee.

“Kala Mistri revealed that the policemen, including the SHO, had taken money from him a few days ago for not taking any action against him,” said Manwinderbir Singh, DSP, Malout.

The sources said alleging frame-up, the absconding policemen’s kin today met Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal at Badal village and accused the SHO of taking Rs 2 lakh from the drug peddler.
