In a notification issued by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), integrated BA and BEd courses will be started in degree colleges across the state.
Earlier, students had to pursue a three-year BA and a two-year BEd course to become a teacher. In the integrated course, they can complete BA and BEd course in four years. The BEd course can also be integrated with BCom and BSc. Students will not have to take fresh admission for the course. The courses will be started from the 2015-16 session.
Colleges can apply for the integrated courses from March 1 to May 30. Sources, however, claimed the courses could be started in 2016, as it would take almost a year to obtain permission from the government.
Dr Amit Kauts, Dean, faculty of education, Guru Nanak Dev University, said, “Colleges willing to start the integrated courses will have to obtain a no objection certificate from the government, a university affiliation and a recognition from the NCTE. The university will also formulate a syllabus for the course, which hasn’t been decided yet. So it will start next year.”
