Of the 99 students of Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) here, 50 have flunked Class XII’s physical education exam. To the surprise of the teachers, these students have cleared English and math exams.
And those who cleared the physical education exam scraped through by getting 13 marks in theory.
A student needs 13 marks out of 40 to pass the theory paper; 10 marks are for assessment and 50 for the practical exam. Liberal marking in assessment and practical exams brings into question the role of the school authorities in masking the deficiencies in the system.
For instance, a student got two marks in theory, but 42 in practical. Another student secured three marks in theory and 38 in practical.
PHE lecturer Kuldeep Singh was on leave today, while he could not be contacted on his mobile phone.
“It is for the first time that several students have flunked the physical education exam. We have written to the PSEB for reviewing the result as we believe there’s a typing error in the result,” said RK Singla, school principal.
