Six youths were killed on the spot while one sustained serious injuries in an accident on the Lehragaga-Sunam road at Khokhar Kalan village, 5 km from Lehragaga, last night.
The accident occurred when the Verna car the youths were in reportedly rammed into a stationary truck while another vehicle (Innova) hit the car from the rear. Both these vehicles were going to Sunam from Lehragaga.
All the five occupants of the car, Manpreet Singh (23) and Harpal Singh (19) of Mehlan village, Gurpreet Singh (24) of Bhindran village, Satgur Singh (20) of Chhajli village and Gurwinder Singh (23) of Gujran village, died on the spot.
The Innova driver, Budh Singh (23) of Bhindran village, was also killed while another occupant sustained serious injuries. He has been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Sunam.
Manjit Singh, Dirba Deputy Superintendent of Police, said it appeared the accident had occurred due to negligent driving. He said the police had also found 30 cases of liquor from the Innova.
Balwant Singh, Chhajli police station Station House Officer, said the liquor was without permit. He said during preliminary investigation it had come to notice that the deceased, occupants of the Verna and the Innova, were involved in the liquor trade.
