FARIDKOT: Eight-year-old Bikramjeet Singh Matharu was killed and another boy injured in celebratory firing at a wedding in Kotkapura today. Two uncles of the groom have been booked.

Faridkot, November 19

Eight-year-old Bikramjeet Singh Matharu was killed and another boy injured in celebratory firing at a wedding in Kotkapura today. Two uncles of the groom have been booked under Sections 304 and 336 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder and endangering lives) and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. 

A bullet pierced the victim’s back and abdomen and he died on the spot. Tamreen Singh, 9, standing next to him, was injured. The boys were rushed to the Kotkapura Civil Hospital where Bikramjeet was declared “brought dead”.

Tamreen was shifted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot.

According to the FIR, registered on the complaint of the father of the deceased, Kulwinder Singh, his pleas to members of the marriage party not to fire into the air went unheeded. Bikramjeet was a student of DAV School, Kotkapura. Sources said the accused were in an inebriated state. — TNS
