The Congress on Thursday attacked Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal for not reprimanding the party’s Punjab leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira enough for the latter’s alleged pro-secession remarks.

Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar said, “Mr Arvind Kejriwal, leader of your own legislative party in Punjab Sukhpal Khaira flagrantly supports secessionist demands and your idea of stringent action is ‘refusing to meet’ him? Please don’t fool Punjab by excusing yourself from accountability.”

The Congress has decided to rub Kejriwal’s nose in the Khaira remark with an eye on the Haryana elections. Kejriwal has already announced his decision to contest the next Haryana elections.

The Congress feels that it has a good chance of returning to power in Haryana where the political equation has already been complicated by a pre-Lok Sabha election pact between the INLD and BSP.

The AAP’s presence will further complicate the situation for the Congress as the AAP tends to eat into the Congress vote base.

That explains the Congress stand on the AAP, which has begun describing it as a “party which talks Khalistan”.

Congress spokesman Pawan Khera had recently said, “How can the Congress ever ally with a party which talks Khalistan?”
