Excise and taxation officials have recovered Rs 52,954 as luxury tax with interest from a hotel owned by SAD leader Manjinder Singh ‘Bittu’, son of Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.

Sources in the Excise and Taxation Department said the tax – which has to be deposited monthly -- had not been paid for four months (April to July). Manjinder finally paid the tax with interest on August 30.

He is the owner of Royal Inn Hotel at Kotkapura chowk in Muktsar town. It is registered as Raja Hotel in the department records.

Excise and Taxation Officer Madhur Bhatia and Excise and Taxation Inspector Manish Kumar said, “The hotel management delayed the payment of tax. There was no evasion. Besides, some amount has been charged as advance tax.”
