The police today booked Akali leader Jagseer Singh Seera, his accomplices Satwinder Singh, Rajdeep Singh, Mahinder Singh, Buta Singh, Sukha Singh and Bhinda Singh, and eight unidentified persons for the murder of AAP activist Jagroop Singh.

A case was registered under Sections 302, 307, 323, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at Dharamkot police station in the district.

Jagroop was shot dead over a property dispute at Bhinder Kalan village late last night. His nephew, Pritpal Singh, was injured. No arrest had been made till the filing of this report.

SHO Satwinder Singh Virk told mediapersons that Seera and two of his aides were admitted to the Civil Hospital as they were injured in a clash. “We will arrest them soon after they are discharged,” he added.

Jagroop’s brother Ranh Singh, whose son Pritpal is battling for life, said they had complained repeatedly to the local police that Seera wanted to grab their land.

“We got an FIR registered against Seera on August 14, but the police did not arrest him,” he alleged.

Seera, an ex-sarpanch and a former chairman of the local market committee, has been active in Akali politics for the past three decades.
