Amid rumours that the wife and son of Shiromani Akali Dal MP Sher Singh Ghubaya were planning to join the Congress, a vigilance team of Punjab Police today raided Ghubaya College of Engineering and Technology at Sukhera Bodla village in Fazilka district and seized certain documents.

Official sources said the team, which was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Makhan Singh, scrutinised papers pertaining to the college functioning and took away some of these.

The college, set up in 2010, is run by the Ghubaya Education Society headed by Krishna Rani, the MP’s wife. Talking to The Tribune, Ghubaya said the team had checked college papers yesterday as well. He was not aware why this was being done.

His son Varinder Singh said the college was being run in a transparent manner as per the rules. “Everything is being done online. Hence, there is no question of any irregularity,” he claimed. There have been allegations of misappropriation of funds meant for SC students. The Ghubaya family has been denying these all along.

Denying reports of his family members joining the Congress, the Ferozepur MP said, “It's a false propaganda launched by my opponents within the party.”
