Administrations of several districts in Punjab have ordered schools to change their timings as thick fog hovers in several parts of the state.

As visibility drops dismally in several parts of the state, deputy commissioners of Mansa; Bathinda; Sangrur; Tarntaran; Hoshiarpur; Pathankot; Ludhiana; Jalandhar; and Kapurthala; have ordered schools to begin schools at 10 am—later than usual—although their closing remains unchanged. Some districts, such as Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar, have asked schools to remain closed from January 3-6.

Pathankot’s district administration has advanced closing time for schools—primary schools will close at 2 pm and secondary and high schools will close at 2.30 pm, earlier than their usual time of 3.15 pm.

The orders, issued under Section 144, apply to both private as well as government institutions—Aanganwadi’s included—in rural and urban areas, and will apply immediately until further orders in Bathinda and Jalandhar districts.
