Gurdaspur, February 19

Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa, a known detractor of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, and all the seven sitting Congress legislators of the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency have joined hands to press the CM to establish the proposed medical college and hospital in Gurdaspur or Pathankot districts instead of Sangrur.

Partap Bajwa has written a letter to the CM detailing the reasons why the medical entity should be set up in the twin border districts. On the other hand all the five MLAs —Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa (Dera Baba Nanak), Fatehjung Singh Bajwa (Qadian), Brindermeet Singh Pahra (Gurdaspur), Joginder Pal (Bhoa) and Amit Vij (Pathankot) — and Cabinet ministers Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Aruna Chaudhury will be meeting Amarinder Singh on February 21 in Chandigarh. They will be accompanied by Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar.

Bajwa, in his letter, has said a medical college in Sangrur is not justified as it is within just a 100-km radius of Patiala, Bathinda, Ludhiana and Chandigarh. All these cities have good medical facilities, he said.
