Residents today termed the delay in cracking the kidnapping and murder case of a Kapurthala-based industrialist’s son Jaskirat Singh alias Jassi (14) a failure of the police.

An action committee constituted to seek justice today demanded that the state government should constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of senior police officials to nab the culprits.

The committee also sought the suspension of Kapurthala SSP Rajinder Singh and the fixing of responsibility of other senior policemen.

A partial bandh was observed in Kapurthala from 10 am to 2 pm. All commercial establishments, educational institutions, shops remained closed. People in large numbers took part in the protest at Bhagat Singh Chowk. Leaders from political parties, including SAD, BJP, AAP and Congress, along with members of several religious groups took part in the event.

Jaskirat was kidnapped on April 11 in Kapurthala when he was going for tuition. Two days later, his body was recovered from Fatehabad in Tarn Taran district. Jaskirat’s father Narinder owns a belt manufacturing industry in Kapurthala.
