The Punjab Human Rights Organisation (PHRO) has sought registration of a criminal case against Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Special, Harjit Singh Brar for allegedly tampering with records in the cable operator suicide case.
Brar was heading the SIT investigating the case in which cable operator Jaswinder Singh Jassi consumed some poisonous substance in front of some judges of the Supreme Court and the Punjab and Haryana High Court on March 28.
Sarabjit Singh Verka, principle investigator of the PHRO, has filed a complaint with Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh in this regard. Aulakh confirmed that he had received the complaint. They would examine it, he said.
Verka has alleged that in order to benefit the accused in the case, Brar removed his statements and evidence that he had submitted to the SIT. “Not only my statements, Brar also removed the statements of several others eyewitnesses before submitting the file in the court during the hearing of a bail application of the accused, including Sarabjit Singh Raju, Gurwinder Singh Babbi and Pritpal Singh Lalli,” he alleged.
Brar, however, refuted the charges and said the SIT had investigated the case in a transparent manner.
