Former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia today demanded the registration of a criminal case against Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, his wife and their aides for leaking a report that was submitted by the Special Task Force (STF) to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a sealed cover.

Addressing the media here, Majithia showed a video clip of the Sidhus’ press conference. “There is no way a sealed-cover report that was resealed on the court’s directions be with a woman (Sidhu’s wife) who doesn’t hold any official position in the government,” he said, questioning in what capacity the minister had access to the document.

Terming the leak the “gravest of criminal contempt”, the Akali leader said the episode smacked of a conspiracy and an attempt to make a mockery of the judicial process. On STF chief Harpreet Sidhu, the former minister claimed that the officer “admitted” that they were estranged cousins. Majithia said they were related through his paternal aunt, who was Harpreet Sidhu’s maternal aunt. He said the STF chief should explain why he was trying to settle a score with him.
