Chandigarh: The Cabinet on Wednesday cleared the presentation of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) audit reports, finance accounts and appropriation accounts for the year ending March 31, an official press release said.

A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said as per provisions contained in Clause 2 of Article-151 of the Constitution, the aforesaid documents and reports are mandatory to be tabled in the Assembly during the ongoing session. 2 held for attack on Wildlife Dept officials

Ropar: A year after an attack on officials of the Wildlife Department, two accused, including a woman, surrendered at Anandpur Sahib court near here on Tuesday. The court has sent them — Baldev Singh, a resident of Naudhe Majra village near Nurpur Bedi, and his wife Kamlesh Kaur — in police custody for two days. On March 9, 2017, a team of the Wildlife Department, led by Range Officer Surjit Singh, went to Baldev’s house to conduct a raid. They were allegedly attacked by the couple, along with six other unidentified persons, and made hostage. — TNS

Phagwara: Tension prevailed in the town after several banners having pictures of Dr BR Ambedkar were found damaged at different places in the town late on Tuesday night. The banners were for a social function scheduled to be held on April 14, the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar. SHO City Gurmit Singh Sidhu said on a complaint lodged by Parminder Bodh of Bhula Rai, the police have registered a case under Section 295 of the IPC. OC

PWD clerk arrested for taking bribe

Muktsar: The VB on Wednesday arrested a clerk posted in the PWD (B&R) here while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The accused clerk, Rajinderpal, had allegedly demanded the money to pay the arrears of Kasuni village resident Karamjit Kaur’s deceased husband, a beldar in the same department. TNS

Teacher’s suspension revoked after protest

Muktsar: Two days after various teachers’ unions gheraoed the District Education Office seeking revocation of the suspension of head teacher Rajpal Singh of Government Primary School at Tappakhera village for lodging protest against the state government’s policies, the authorities agreed to their demand and issued a fresh order on Wednesday.
