FAZILKA: Thana Singh (65), father of Balkar Singh Sidhu, media incharge of Fazilka Congress MLA Davinder Singh Ghubaya, was allegedly assaulted by two youths in Chaurianwali village of the district on Sunday evening.

Injured Thana Singh was admitted to the local Civil Hospital from where doctors referred him to Medical College, Faridkot. Sidhu said his father was working in the agriculture fields around 7 pm on Sunday when two neighbours reportedly attacked his father with sharp-edged weapons. He sustained multiple injuries. Fazilka DSP Narinder Singh claimed that land dispute was said to be behind the incident, but the issue had been resolved now. OC

Two injured in firing

Muktsar: In a dispute between two youths, one of them allegedly opened fire near Chiranji Lal Dhir Park in Gidderbaha on Monday evening. The second youth and an aged passerby were injured. Sources said Maninder Kumar and Jagat Singh, both residents of Guru Nanak Nagar in Gidderbaha, had been having some dispute for the past few days. “Maninder had sought action against Jagat by lodging a complaint to the police. However, on Monday both clashed again,” said the sources. TNS

Three arrested for murder

Ropar:  The district police have arrested three accused in the murder case of Jasbir Singh, alias Fauji (30), a resident of Chandiani Khurd village in Nawanshahr district, here on Monday. Two accused, Ajay Kumar and Manjit Singh, along with their accomplices had allegedly attacked Jasbir Singh with sharp weapons when he was returning from a religious place, Peer Nigahan, on May 17, killing him on the spot. Free medical tests 

Fazilka: The government has decided to conduct free medical tests of residents of Punjab above the age of 30 under the “Tandarust Punjab” scheme. Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said this during his visit to Fazilka to take stock of various ongoing and “Tandarust Punjab” schemes on Monday. He said saplings would be planted on over 181 acres of village common land in Fazilka. Similarly, 880 Nadep compost pits would be constructed in villages. OC

Boy dies as wall collapses

Abohar: Rinku (9) died as the wall of a bathroom in his house collapsed after rainfall in Lohia Colony at Hanumangarh on Sunday. The incident took place when the boy was playing with elder brother Pradeep, who had a narrow escape. OC

Youth ends life

Abohar: Manoj Meghwal (19) of Butasar village reportedly ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his relatives' rented house near Ganpati Enclave in Sriganganagar on Monday. Investigation Officer Lalita Gaur said he had come here three months ago to take coaching at a private academy for higher studies. In the handwritten suicide note found in the room, the youth stated he was taking the extreme step of his own will and none should be harassed in this connection. OC

Rs 63,800 looted from fuel pump

Abohar: Three car-borne miscreants reportedly looted Rs 63,800 from a fuel station in Balluana village when only one salesman, Ravinder Singh of Bahadurkhera village, was on duty on Sunday. One of the miscreants reportedly engaged the salesman in filling fuel in the vehicle while others looted the sale proceeds of the day. A case has been registered. OC

VB nabs Moga cop for graft

Moga: The Vigilance Bureau has arrested ASI Gurpal Singh and Class-IV employee Gama while accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000. Both were posted at Nihalsinghwala police station. They were caught red-handed on the complaint of Ashok Kumar of Bhagta Bhaika village in Bathinda. A case has been registered against them. TNS
