Chandigarh, March 28
The Border Security Force foiled an infringement bid by Pakistans smugglers at Mazmian border outpost in Ajnala when they shot dead one and seized 24 kg of heroin estimated to be worth a staggering Rs 120 crore in the international market, officials said on Saturday.
Officials said there were four-five smugglers in all. A BSF spokesman said troops retaliated after they were fired upon by some smugglers. The body of the smuggler was found during search operations on Saturday.
The BSF has recovered nearly 110 kg of heroin in the Punjab sector this year: before Saturday's incident, 18 kg of heroin was seized in the Gurdaspur sector on March 23. — TNS
