Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh inaugurated the renovated museum of Shaheed Bhagat Singh here on Friday during the state-level function to mark Martyrs’ Day.
Dedicating the day to youth empowerment, the Chief Minister also launched the DAPO (Drug Abuse Prevention Officer) programme to involve government employees and other residents of Punjab in the fight against drugs.
At noon, as part of a state-wide ceremony, Capt Amarinder took the Drug Abuse Prevention Officer oath and administered it to the youths present and other volunteers through video-conferencing.
The Chief Minister became the state’s first DAPO, with Special Task Force (STF) chief Harpreet Singh Sidhu presenting him the DAPO identity card.
The Chief Minister then handed over a similar card to Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and two citizen volunteers.
Amarinder said more than 4.25 lakh volunteers had already been enrolled on the DAPO website.
Congress MLAs Angad Singh, Rana Gurmeet Sodhi, Darshan Lal Mangupur and Raj Kumar Chabbewal were among those present.
Punjab Youth Congress chief Amarpreet Singh Lalli highlighted the delay in naming the Mohali airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
The Chief Minister said he was taking up the matter with the Centre.
