Union Cabinet Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal today claimed that the case against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler would be reinvestigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT was formed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she said.

She further criticised the CBI for giving Tytler, who is one of the accused in 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom, a clean chit. She said, “The CBI under the Congress had destroyed all proofs against the accused, making it difficult to prove them guilty. However, I hope the criminals will be brought to book as a number of eyewitnesses are alive.”

Harsimrat was here to attend the annual prize distribution function at Mata Sundari Girls’ College, Mansa.

On the drug menace in the state, she said, “The Congress has been trying to defame the state. Rahul Gandhi said 70 per cent of the youth were addicted to drugs. Drugs are being smuggled into the state from across the international border. These are not being manufactured in the state. We should not defame ourselves.”

Harsimrat said the BJP’s land acquistion Bill was beneficial for farmers, but she evaded questions on farmers, who were hit by waterlogging in September 2014, not being paid compensation.

Earlier, besides doling out development grants, she inaugurated waterworks in Kheeva Dyaluwala village and redressed the grievances of villagers at Matti village in Mansa.
