Victims of various chit fund schemes under the banner of Naujwan Bharat Sabha and Joint Action Against Chit Fund Companies, today protested in front of the DC office here.

A number of people from various villages participated in the protest and demanded action against the erring companies to recover their money.

The protesters converged at the local grain market and held a protest march in the city, which culminated in front of the DC office.

They raised slogans against the state government and the police for failing to take action against the accused.

“Around 100 victims have committed suicide. We have submitted a memorandum to the DC for an immediate action. We will meet the SSP in coming some days,” said Bhupinder Longowal, a union leader.

“I have been staying away from my house for the last four months as my acquaintances had invested Rs 20 lakh in such companies on my insistence. They are now threatening to kill me. All such companies have fled. It is not my fault as even I lost Rs 5 lakh,” said Harpal Singh of Samana. His printing press has been lying shut and the family members are borrowing money from relatives to make both ends meet.

Another victim Balwinder Singh of Mander village said he and his relatives had invested Rs 23 lakh. Now, his relatives are after him to get back their money back.
