Panjab University, Chandigarh, called a meeting of its disciplinary committee after a clash between two factions of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) at the PU campus on November 15, following the conclusion of ‘Aaghaz’.
The disciplinary committee recommended that the entry of the outsiders — Pargat Singh, who belongs to the Jugnu group of the NSUI, Pradeep Gujjar and Yadwinder Singh, both belonging to the Gurjot Sandhu group — be banned in the university.
The Panjab University Campus Student Council also condemned the incident and stated that a strict action should be taken against the students and outsiders involved in the incident.
On November 15, Pargat Brar, who belongs to the Jugnu group of the NSUI, was injured after he was allegedly attacked by Gurjot Sandhu and his supporters with a sharp weapon.
Brar had lodged an FIR against Gurjot Sandhu and his supporters Pardeep Gujjar, Sachin Galav and Yadwinder Singh.
On the basis of the information given to the committee by Pargat Brar, the committee decided to obtain details of record i.e. admission and lecture statement, regarding the students whose names appeared in the FIR lodged by Brar, from their respective Departments.
The disciplinary committee, in another meeting, came to know that the students referred in the FIR were not the students of the PU and also found that Pargat Brar, the complainant, was also not a student of the PU. Gurjot Sandhu, who is a PU student, did not appear before the committee. However, Sachin Galav, gave in writing that he was not involved in the incident. The committee has informed the Chandigarh SSP and SHO, Sector 11, Chandigarh, that Pargat Brar is not a student of the French Department as claimed by him in his statement.
