Chandigarh: Less than five years after 1,192 posts of clerks were advertised, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the Punjab Chief Secretary to explain “how and why” a combined merit list was not prepared and published and whether the state proposed to initiate proceedings against the officers, including the members of the Subordinate Services Selection Board, for the situation.

Justice Jitendra Chauhan also directed the Chief Secretary to explain whether, for such a dereliction of duty, action was taken against officers who misconducted themselves and carried out the selections in an illegal manner. “The Chief Secretary shall also explain whether the state proposes to grant any relief to the candidates who fell victims to this illegal selection,” he said.
