Chandigarh, November 24

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has warned of strict action against officers discourteous to elected representatives.

He was chairing a meeting to review the law and order in the state here today. Complaints from various districts in this regard had reached him and he said he would not allow the position of the elected representatives to be undermined in any manner.

The police should be vigilant against radicalisation campaigns being carried out on social media platforms. He also asked the police force to maintain "greater vigilance" along the Indo-Pak Border as "infiltration activity moves southwards once the passes close due to inclement winter weather".

The prevention of terror-related crime was his priority and he ordered all SSPs and CPs to lead from the front in combating such threats.

The CM ordered all-out efforts to solve undetected cases such as Maur bomb blast (January 31), murder of Mata Chand Kaur (Bhaini Sahib) and attack on Dhadrianwale in Ludhiana.

He also said there would be zero-tolerance to handling sacrilege cases. Senior officers were directed to have CCTV cameras installed through community participation.

Amarinder also instructed the police to tighten the noose around drug smugglers, especially the big fish. Police Commissioners, SSPs, SDPOs and SHOs would be held directly accountable for such activities in their areas.

He instructed the officials to take firm action against gangsters and stern steps to control petty street crimes such as snatching to instill a sense of safety and confidence among citizens.

The chief minister directed the Home Department to build a statewide database to keep a tab on arms dealers and to also monitor the supply and inventory of arms and ammunition.

On criminal activities in prisons, the CM ordered harnessing technology in this context.
