Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today assured Bhaini Sahib chief Satguru Uday Singh that the killers of Mata Chand Kaur, the matriarch of the sect, would soon be hunted down.

“The Punjab Police are assisting the CBI in its investigation into the murder case. The police, on their own, are making efforts to trace the killers,” he said during his one-hour visit to Bhaini Sahib.

The Chief Minister said his government would not spare anti-social elements. To prove his point, he said that a few days ago, the police had arrested killers wanted in murder of right-wing leaders. “The police will arrest killers of Mata Chand Kaur as well.”

Bhaini Sahib spokesman Lakhvir Singh Badowal said Capt Amarinder held a closed-door meeting with Satguru Uday Singh, Sant Jagtar Singh, HS Hanspal and Sant Surinder Singh.

Sultanpur Lodhi MLA Navtej Singh Cheema and other Congress leaders were also present at the meeting.

Mata Chand Kaur, the wife of late Satguru Jagjit Singh, was shot dead in the dera complex on April 4, 2016. She was visiting an educational institution along with her driver on an electronic golf cart when two motorcycle-borne persons had intercepted the vehicle and opened fire at her.

Mata Chand Kaur’s case is said to be the only high-profile targeted killing in the state in the past year and a half that is yet to be solved. Meanwhile, Capt Amarinder assured help to restructure the Astroturf in Bhaini Sahib.
