Principal-cum-Director of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDEC) MS Saini has filed an appeal before the Chairman, Board of Governors (BOG), IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, demanding that the inquiry report on alleged irregularities in admissions to the college from 2010-2012 and the order passed against him last year be set aside.

After Saini made a submission, the matter was put up in the agenda of the recently held BOG meeting. The agenda item read: Dr Saini has sought that the revised order of the IKGPTU passed on July 14, 2016, be set aside in the interest of justice.

Officiating registrar of the varsity Amanpreet Singh said, “The matter was discussed. Our officiating Vice Chancellor G Vajralingam is to take the final call. The minutes of the meeting are yet to be finalised.”

A complaint regarding the alleged anomalies in admission was moved in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. In December 2014, the court had directed the Principal Secretary Technical Education, Punjab, to conduct an inquiry into the admissions for the years 2010-11 and 2011-12 and complete the exercise, preferably within a period of three months.

The inquiry committee set up for the purpose probed six charges against the principal and found him guilty of four. The report, submitted on July 21, 2015, recommended a strong disciplinary action against him. But as action did not follow, a contempt petition was filed the same year.
