Despite the fact that a 10-year-old boy was allegedly mowed down by a Toyota Fortuner at Doda village in Muktsar yesterday, the police have neither booked the driver nor the vehicle owner.

The Fortuner (CH01AJ7337) is owned by a Muktsar resident, Happy Sharma, who is a friend of IYC chief-cum-Gidderbaha MLA Amrinder Singh ‘Raja Warring’. However, the vehicle is mostly used by Warring himself and even his area people identify the vehicle as the “personal car” of Warring.

At the time of mishap, two aides of Warring identified as Randhir Singh and Gurpreet Singh were travelling in the vehicle and his driver Sujan Singh was driving it. Even Warring admitted over the phone that the car was being driven by his driver when the mishap occurred.

However, the police have maintained that the deceased boy’s family was not willing to get a case registered and had even submitted it in writing that they did not want any legal action.

Gurkanwal Singh, son of Dharminder Singh of Doda village, had gone to a barber’s shop opposite his house yesterday and was returning home when he was allegedly hit by the Fortuner.

Rajinder Sharma, in charge, Doda police post, said, “We have not registered any case in this regard. The deceased’s family was not willing to take any legal action.”

An advocate said, “The police can’t defend anyone in such cases. A case has to be registered in such cases for death caused by negligence.”

Case against Warring: Next hearing on Sept 19

Muktsar: In the defamation case suit filed by former Congress MLA from Gidderbaha Raghubir Singh Pardhan against IYC chief-cum-Congress MLA from Gidderbaha Amrinder Singh ‘Raja Warring’, the latter did not appear before the court on Monday as he had “not received the summons”. Pardhan said, “The court has now summoned Raja Warring on September 19. Last time, the summons was not served on Warring as he was out of station.” Notably, Raghubir Singh Pardhan has filed a defamation suit against Warring claiming compensation of Rs 1 crore, alleging that Warring had defamed him publicly in the party meeting held in Muktsar on December 29 last year regarding the Maghi Mela rally.
