As many as 3,744 children and pregnant women were administered vaccine against seven life-threatening diseases under the mission Indradhanush in Fazilka district.
Ravinder Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Fazilka, said infants between the age of 0-2 and pregnant women were offered immunisation cover in 737 special sessions from June 8 to 16.
Civil Surgeon Dr YK Gupta said during the special session, the department focussed on high-risk areas like slum localities, brick kiln and construction sites, migratory population, where children and pregnant women were left without immunisation due to unspecified reasons.
“The second session of the mission Indradhanush will be conducted from July 8 to 16 to complete the immunisation mission,” said the Civil Surgeon.
Notably, local MLA and Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jyani had inaugurated a flagship programme, mission Indradhanush, for 17 districts
of Punjab, in Fazilka on June 8 with an aim to
prevent children and women from seven dreaded diseases.
