Ashutosh to remain in freezer till March 15

Chandigarh, February 23

The controversy over Ashutosh’s cremation continues to remain in deep freezer. A bunch of appeals and applications filed in the matter came up for resumed hearing this morning, but the issue remained inconclusive.

The Bench of Justice Satish Kumar Mittal and Justice Harinder Singh Sidhu fixed March 15 as the next date of hearing. The stay orders against his cremation will continue till then.

The High Court, on the previous date of hearing, had asked all concerned to come out with an amicable solution.

Unhappy with the impasse, the Bench had earlier verbally observed that failure to cremate the body meant showing disrespect to it; and a position like present could lead to a situation where people would refuse to cremate their dead and keep them in refrigerators in their homes.

The Bench has already made it clear that it will begin by looking into the appeal filed by Ashutosh’s “son” Dalip Kumar Jha. — TNS
