Blaming arhtiya in video, Tanda farmer ends life

TANDA (HOSHIARPUR): Fed up with alleged harassment by an arhtiya, a landless farmer from nearby Tahli village today committed suicide.

Fed up with alleged harassment by an arhtiya, a landless farmer from nearby Tahli village today committed suicide. The deceased was identified as Jaswant Singh.

Before ending his life, he made a video on his mobile phone wherein he held Master Mehnga Singh, an arhtiya of Begowal, responsible for his death. He sent the video to his brother Kamaljit Singh.

Jaswant Singh stated that he had taken a loan of Rs 3,25,000 from the arhtiya and mortgaged his house. Kamaljit said though his brother had repaid the loan, the accused was harassing him by not returning the papers of the house. The victim was also threatened with forcibly grabbing of his wheat crop. The police have booked Mehnga Singh for abetment of suicide..

Debt claims another life

Muktsar: A farmer committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in a field at Ratta Tibba village in Lambi last night. The deceased, Dogar Ram, had taken a loan of about Rs 10 lakh from various banks, societies and commission agents and was unable to repay it. — TNS
