Chandigarh, May 23

A delegation of 12 Congress MLAs, led by PPCC vice-president and chief spokesperson Sunil Jakhar, today handed over a memorandum to Punjab Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki over the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

Jakhar apprised the Governor of recent killings, gang wars and “rise” in other criminal activities in the state. He raised a question mark over the credibility of the state government. The Governor was requested to take stringent steps to control the situation.

Among other things pointed out by the delegation included “admission” by the Punjab Police about 57 organised criminal gangs operating in the state, the killing of Namdhari matriarch Chand Kaur and the murderous assault on Ranjeet Singh Dadarianwale.

After the meeting, Jakhar said the Governor had asked for a detailed report from the state DGP.

Channi stays away

CLP leader Charanjit Singh Channi was not part of the delegation that met the Governor, which raised many eyebrows. Though Channi cited personal exigency as the reason behind his absence, sources said he was not informed.
